Former NP Commissioner Dan Butler dies at 87

Former Nether Providence Commissioner and businessman Daniel Butler died in Media on Feb 5th. He was first elected in 1979 and served as commissioner in the 3rd Ward until 1987. There is no other mention of his work as commissioner in the newspapers that I could find but it was notable that back then the Delaware County newspapers actually did cover the municipal races. Even if it was just a paragraph, they wrote something about what candidates were running for. Dan Butler also served as judge of election, and served on the finance committee of Swarthmore Methodist and the Old Mill.

Dan Butler took over as head of CSC in 1975, a company providing incorporation services in the state of Delaware. He led it for 38 years. It must have been a lucrative business as Delaware has notoriously lax corporate laws. He also served as a board member of the National Constitution Center, the Riddle Village retirement community and belonged to the Union League of Philadelphia and the Wilmington Club.
