Today is May Day, the International Worker’s Day declared in 1889, and also marked as Beltane, the traditional start to summer in Celtic lands. There are a number of activities happening in the area this weekend.
If you want to take part in May Day, most of the left is participating in the Philadelphia’s People’s Budget May Day Action in LOVE Park in Philadelphia from noon – 4 pm. As for Beltane, it looks like the few local activities related to it are still virtual due to Covid.
The Media Area NAACP Youth Council is hosting a Festival for Asian Empowerment from 2-5 pm in Media by the court house. Speakers include Rose Valley’s Vippy Yee and Helen Gym from Philadelphia.
Back here in WSSD, the school district is holding its vaccination clinic for students 16+ years old at the middle school. Yesterday Lisa Palmer sent out an email with a form for those interested in signing up for the will call list if there’s extra doses left over. You need to be able to arrive quickly if you’re called. Help make sure no vaccine is wasted! Delaware County is also hosting two vaccination clinics this weekend that are open to anyone – you can drive or walk up with no appointment.
The Garden City Fire Company is following South Media’s lead and holding its own first Food Truck Fundraiser today from 4 – 7 pm. They’ll have DELCO Steaks, Boss with Sauce, West Branch Baking Company and Decals by Aaron. South Media is holding its own Food Truck Friday on May 7th from 5 – 8 pm.
Tomorrow, the Unifying Group of Media is holding volunteers skills in drills for football on Sunday at Sapovitz Park from 3 to 4:30, ages 10 and up. The Potters Guild is having their spring sale this weekend at the Community Arts Center.
