Harvest Season is Coming

Its time for the harvest, or at least it would be if the deer hadn’t already eaten both of our ears of corn this year. But, the harvest festivals are starting to come back this year, regardless of deer activity.

The township is holding its Family Fun Day on October 2nd from noon to 3 pm. Lots of games and fun for children. Volunteers are still much needed.

NPE appears to not be doing an event this year, but the Garden City Fire Company is holding a fall fundraiser next door on October 23rd from noon to 4 pm.

If you’re looking to get some exercise on Turkey Day, you can already sign up for the DelCo Turkey Trot, run by the NPE PTO. The live event is on November 25th at 8:30 am or 9 am (depending on the run).

If you’re looking for something further afield, Linvilla Orchards is holding its usual variety of fall activities. Tyler Arboretum appears to not have scheduled its usual festival.

This past month I’ve gone to a couple of community gatherings – Unity Day in South Media, the Lenape pow wow at Mauch Chunk and the block party in Bowling Green. Though very different events, they were all great times for family, friends and neighbors to reconnect. It always seems like Garden City’s kind of missing this kind of neighborhood event. The closest to it might be Halloween. I’ve met more new neighbors that day than any other – everyone’s out and about and the streets are so busy you can’t drive. So let’s hope for a great Halloween this year.

If you know of other harvest festivals happening nearby, let me know and I’ll update this post.
