Update from the Superintendent,
Dear WSSD Community,
This letter is to inform you about a lockdown that we had this morning at Strath Haven High School. Our district is committed to the safety and well-being of our students and staff, and today we responded to an incident with a student.
At approximately 10:45 am this morning, we received notification from a staff member that a student may have a weapon in a backpack. The high school administration Immediately initiated its lockdown procedures. The school remained in lockdown for about an hour as the high school administration and local law enforcement conducted a search. The student’s belongings were located in a classroom by police, who conducted a search of the backpack and located a replica handgun. The student was located a short time later and taken into custody. No one was threatened or hurt during the incident. The lockdown was lifted and the school resumed its schedule.
I would like to commend our students and staff for following all safety protocols, and our law enforcement partners for their quick response. I would also like to thank our families for their cooperation as we responded to the incident.
Lockdowns can cause anxiety, fear, and other difficult emotions for students. I encourage you to notify a counselor or administrator if you have specific concerns and to also visit our website for additional resources.
We also encourage you to talk with your children and emphasize that bringing such objects to school is a violation of our district policy. Per our policy, a replica or look-alike is considered a weapon.
