I know there are readers of this blog that do not get school emails. Here’s the latest from the school district and township police. The linked Rose Tree Media statement has more substantive information.
Dear WSSD Families and Staff,
This morning, I learned of a communication that was shared by Dr. Bill Dougherty, interim Superintendent of Rose Tree Media School District, to the larger community (link). In that communication, Dr. Dougherty provided details about an individual who is a registered offender on the Megan’s Law list who has been seen in close proximity to their schools. This is a public list accessible to everyone.
Although this individual has never set foot on district property, he has been seen walking along the public sidewalk in the vicinity of our schools. We are aware of this person’s criminal background, and we are in collaboration with Chief Splain. Our Safety and Security aides are aware of this individual and will monitor this situation closely. The local police department will be informed immediately if this individual is on WSSD property.
The safety of our students and staff is our top priority.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our Coordinator of Safety and Security, Dana McBride, at dmcbride@wssd.org.
Sincerely,
Wagner Marseille, Ed. D.
Superintendent of Schools
Chief Splain has followed up with this statement,
There has been a lot of activity on Social Media about an individual who is registered on the Megan’s Law website. This individual has been observed walking on Providence Road in the area of the schools. The Nether Providence Police are very familiar with this individual and have been in communication with school officials regarding this issue.
The individual is not on probation or parole and is permitted to be anywhere in public. Anyone with any concerns is encouraged to contact the Nether Providence Police Department at 610-892-2875 or by calling 911.
David M. Splain
Chief of Police
Nether Providence Police Department
